Roman Bath House
Arizona State - Fall 2025
Assigned to design an interior space by incorporating specific styles, cultures, and design features from a movement or theme introduced in class.
Roman baths were a significant part of the social lives of ancient Romans, serving as places for daily hygiene and as hubs for community and relaxation. A bath house could host a variety of amenities, but the three most common areas were the caldarium, frigidarium, and tepidarium. The caldarium had intense heat and steam, the frigidarium offered benches and a cold plunge, and the tepidarium served as a warm resting area between the two spaces. Inspired by this classical layout and other traditional Roman architectural details, I designed a modern day spa that blends ancient Roman practices with contemporary design.
